We were delighted to be joined by 30 primary schoolchildren for our rehearsal for Mahler's Fourth Symphony. Working with the charity London Music Masters, children from local primary schools came and sat in for part of the rehearsal, learning about the different sounds and instruments of the orchestra, and exploring their reactions and responses to Mahler's wonderful music. We look forward to welcoming other groups to our rehearsals, and to continuing our collaboration with London Music Masters!
We are thrilled to announce that the London Young Sinfonia has been appointed orchestra in residence at the newly founded Waterperry Opera Festival! LYS performed Cosi fan tutte last summer at Waterperry and is delighted to be invited back for 2018 at beyond. Our first season will include Mozart's Don Giovanni with some of the country's finest young singers under the baton of Bertie Baigent. We are delighted to announce our summer opera production for 2017: Mozart's comic masterpiece Cosi fan tutte. This tale of love, naivity, and pride is produced in association with the Bedford Park Festival, and will be performed in a witty, modern English translation. For more details, and to book tickets, please visit our concerts page.
After more than five years with the London Young Sinfonia our founder, Ben Glassberg, has stepped down as conductor, and handed over the baton to Bertie Baigent. The orchestra has been incredibly fortunate to have had Ben as conductor, and looks forward to exciting future plans with Bertie!
Our September 2016 concert was a great success, with a capacity audience and standing ovation after our performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Apart from musical successes, this concert also marked an important milestone in the orchestra's fundraising achievements: we have now raised more than £5000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. It was fitting that our founder Ben Glassberg's last concert with the orchestra should be such a fantastic occasion.
